Goals

Goal 1. Assist students in improving their academic skills and performance in college courses.

Objective 1. REACH will provide academic support services for undergraduate courses.
Objective 2. REACH will develop, support, and maintain standards of good practice related to tutoring instruction and to interpersonal relations among staff, student employees, and students receiving academic support services.
Objective 3. REACH will consult with and communicate with UofL faculty, professional staff, and students regarding academic support services.
Objective 4. REACH will consult with and refer students to other university services and offices as needed.
Objective 5. REACH will provide three physical centers in Strickler Hall for academic support services.
Objective 6. REACH will evaluate its academic support services and retention programs to ensure these services support the cognitive and affective aspects of learning.
Objective 7. REACH will assess the effectiveness of its academic support services with reference to UofL’s Challenge for Excellence: 1999-2008 Strategic Goals and Areas of Emphasis.

Goal 2. Assist students in preparing for and adapting to college life.

Objective 1. REACH will participate in summer and transfer orientation programs for first-year and undergraduate transfer students.
Objective 2. REACH will support summer courses and offer summer academic programs for prospective undergraduate students or enrolled undergraduate students.
Objective 3. REACH will participate in first-year experience initiatives to assist the academic acculturation of first-year and undergraduate transfer students.
Objective 4. REACH will assist secondary school initiatives to encourage the awareness of college expectations and culture.

Goal 3. Assist the university to increase the persistence rates of undergraduate students.

Objective 1. REACH will conduct a university-wide Early Warning Alert at midterm.
Objective 2. REACH will provide retention initiatives for students during their first and second college years.
Objective 3. REACH will assist with the retention of enrolled “at-risk” populations of students identified during their first and second college years.
Objective 4. REACH will collaborate with university partners to assist in the retention of lower division undergraduate students.
Objective 5. REACH will assess the effectiveness of its retention programs with reference to UofL’s Challenge for Excellence: 1999-2008 Strategic Goals and Areas of Emphasis.
